Those who know me have heard me say that "yoga keeps me sane" and that "it's for the benefit of everyone around me" that I practice regularly! What I didn't expect was for that passion to so beautifully parallel my work in the realm of food relationship.
So, for my fellow yoginis (and those who are curious), I've decided to share some bite-sized bits about The Yoga of Food. Welcome to the first in the series!
In yoga, you can choose to incorporate just the physical practice, or you can incorporate the spiritual and lifestyle components. While you certainly gain benefit from the physical practice, all of the components are designed to work together, for optimal results.
With food, there are micronutrients, macronutrients, phytonutrients, and more! While there are nutrients to be gained from apple juice (hello, vitamin C!), the whole apple is created by mother nature to work its magic in ways we haven't even discovered yet!
Just like yoga, eating whole foods can also be optimized by a variety of other spiritual and lifestyle practices, which we'll cover in upcoming posts. To summarize, the whole apple has way more magic in it than that cup of apple juice, and, that apple's powers multiply when you pair it with friends like mindfulness and gratitude!
With food, as with yoga, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Science calls this synergy; I like to call it magic... po-tae-to, po-tah-to.
